Good God, how I love Pam Grier. She was everything — sexy, sassy, and 100% BADASS. And for white men who hadn’t had a lot of contact with black women (remember, it was the ’70’s), she represented an entire mysterious race of black women. For all of us, she was the epitome of black beauty.

Even though I’m an 80’s baby, I got turned on to Pam early. I can still watch Foxy Brown (1974) 100 times, danced for joy when Quentin Tarantino brought her back for Jackie Brown (1997), and LOVE-LOVE-LOVE her on The L Word.

But when did we first see those luscious mammaries on display? You got it…in the 1973 blaxploitation film, Coffy.

She next appeared in a series of classic women-in-prison films that were shot in the Philippines, earning a contract with legendary drive-in studio American International Pictures. Pam starred in an array of the most amazing, intense, and outrageous films of the ’70s, specializing in the blaxploitation genre, where she became the screen’s first female action star.
